On Thursday we were very lucky to be one of only four schools invited to take a group of students to the unveiling of the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium at Leicester Space Centre. The planetarium, previously known as the Space Theatre, is the largest in the UK boasting 165 seats. Sir Patrick himself was there to unveil the plaque and talk to the attendees during a ceremony in the planetarium itself.
Guests then watched the show ‘We are Astronomers’ with a brand new introductory clip filmed with Sir Patrick. There are 16 of these new clips and during each one Sir Patrick discusses some of his favourite night sky objects. After the ceremony the students had the opportunity to tour the Space Centre itself to experience its many interactive exhibits.
Sir Patrick Moore arrives at the Space Centre to much applause from the audience.
