Long Eaton Astronomical Society – The Tissint Meteorite

On Thursday 1st March The Long Eaton Astronomical Society will meet for the first time. We are very pleased that Graham Ensor is able to join us to give a talk on the Tissint meteorite recently confirmed to have come from Mars. This will be followed by an observing session in the observatory. If the weather is kind we may be able to catch a glimpse of the planet Mars itself.

March looks set to be an exciting month with our very first meeting of the new Astronomical Society, members of the public interested in joining the group should contact the observatory for more information.

If you are a student who is already a member of Astronomy club or a student who would like to join you will be pleased to hear that we now have a regular time slot of the fourth Thursday of every month during term time. You will need to collect a letter from Miss Flood to confirm your attendance.

TLES join the Astroschools Project

We have now been designated as an Astroschool as part of a project run by the Faulkes telescope and the National Schools Observatory. We will be running a number of training sessions and workshops as part of the project available to local secondary schools. If you are a local school and are interested in getting involved please contact us via the observatory email address (observatory@longeaton.derbyshire.sch.uk).
