First look inside the observatory

This new photo, taken just before the end of the half term break, gives a view inside the area which will become the observatory. With a careful look it is possible to see the tops of the two steel columns, of which the inner one will shortly be filled with concrete to provide a pedestal for the telescope pier. Above this is the aperture onto which the dome, which is currently being fabricated off site, will be mounted.

At this stage it is still difficult to envisage how the finished room will look. The original plans show where internal walls, a spiral staircase and a mezzanine floor will complete the facility by providing an ideal observing position.

An elevation drawing then shows the dome in position on the new roof.
